Hi, I don't know where you live and what temperature you are used to. I don't even know which clothes style you are used to. Anyway, is not so cold in those italian cities and towns during the winter. I live in one of those places and know the others. Florence/Assisi are the coldest and Venice the wettest, while Rome is the wormest. In these situations, the layer (onion) style is the best way to get dressed, they say. So, in my opinion, winter blue-jeans, some pullovers, a bomber jacket, a long heavy windcheaters, (or just one long windcheaters with separeted heavy padding), are the solution. Complementing clothing like gloves, one scarf, a woollen hat, are needed. About footwear, Timberland kind of boots or Nike kind of gym shoes are very ordinary here among the yougth during the winter. A pair of waterproof gumboots would be very comfortable in Venice, but just in case it will rain a lot or there will be high tide. And they can be bought there too, in any ironmonger's (20/30 euro). Hope this can help. myahoo!
