Girl I honestly think you need to be less judgemental. You don't even know this boy but are assuming that he isn't very friendly. Looks can be deceiving, he'll surprise you because I have found people into the alternative scene are the nicest people you'll ever meet. When you stay at his place don't judge him by his appearance or assume sh*t about him because of that. Try to find some things you have in common with him and you never know you may befriend him in time.

Hi, I don't know where you live and what temperature you are used to. I don't even know which clothes style you are used to. Anyway, is not so cold in those italian cities and towns during the winter. I live in one of those places and know the others. Florence/Assisi are the coldest and Venice the wettest, while Rome is the wormest. In these situations, the layer (onion) style is the best way to get dressed, they say. So, in my opinion, winter blue-jeans, some pullovers, a bomber jacket, a long heavy windcheaters, (or just one long windcheaters with separeted heavy padding), are the solution. Complementing clothing like gloves, one scarf, a woollen hat, are needed. About footwear, Timberland kind of boots or Nike kind of gym shoes are very ordinary here among the yougth during the winter. A pair of waterproof gumboots would be very comfortable in Venice, but just in case it will rain a lot or there will be high tide. And they can be bought there too, in any ironmonger's (20/30 euro). Hope this can help. myahoo!

Not any school; it will be a matter of beurocracy which prevents you from teaching in a public school. However, you can certainly go for private langauge schools or universities and even try for the state schools. Personally, however, I've never heard of Summer camps happening in Italy.
2 :
I worked for ACLE in a Park near Naples one year, and it was pretty good. , the kids went in the swimming pool and did activities for a few hours, and then we did a lot of fun games with them. Most all of, the other tutors were great, too. I think I was lucky because I have heard of some bad experiences, too like poor organization and dirty lodging. In my case the camp director was great - she even invited us to dinner and took us sight-seeing over the weekend. Plus, the Mom of the family I stayed with made the best pasta! Yum! Yes, you will definitely eat great food there, and it might make up for some minor inconveniences. If you have double citizenship, that must mean you have some contacts in Italy. If so, you should ask them their opinions. It is SO true about knowing the right people! It makes all the difference. You probably have a huge advantage if you have family there!
3 :
Actually, you have a much better chance at teaching in public schools than, say someone who isn't an EU citizen. I agree with the most recent answer, your contacts should be your best resource. I have been teaching English in Italy for almost 6 years now, and I can say that it is actually a VERY GOOD time for you to get started (even if it would better if you had a little experience). If you don't have experience, maybe a summer camp would be a good way to get it. Then, when public school (or private, if you wish - but not recommended) jobs open up in September, you will be more qualified for them. I would also suggest a TEFL (teaching english as a foreign language) certificate if you don't already have one. Where is your family in Italy? Are they in Campania? It would be great, because that is where the $$ jobs are right now. Good Luck!

Teaching in Primary school in Usa?
To teach in primary or pre-primary schools in Usa is a degree in university necessary or is enought a secondary school certificate? In Italy we need for both a 4 years degree in Science of Formation. Thank-you Sorry what is a BA ?

To teach primary school in America you have to have a BA or a BS in Elementary Education. Secondary won't work because it's too specialized. BA is Bachelor of Art and BS is Bachelor of Science. Liberal arts schools give BA's in Education rather than BS's.

Where can I go in Italy to study old-school Catholic liturgical MUSIC

Where can I go in Italy to study old-school Catholic liturgical MUSIC?
Hi, I'm a youngish professional musician working in the Catholic Church. I have two music degrees from reputable conservatories, but I am looking to get some real hands-on experience with the great liturgical tradition of chant and sacred music in the Catholic Church. Aside from one or two specialized university programs, there doen't seem to be much along those lines here in the states. Anway, I have some money saved up and am looking to go to Italy or the Vatican City to experience and study this great art first-hand. Can anyone recommend a possible jumping off point in terms of Univsersities or Institutions where I might be able to participate in and/or study this great tradition? I was hoping that the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music would be the place to start, but most of their website is in Italian and doesn't seem to have been updated since 2007. By the way, my Italian is functional, and I would certainly work to improve it if I were going over there. Thanks- Pax Christi!!

I'm looking for research ideas involving Italy and China

I'm looking for research ideas involving Italy and China?
I am a college student that is looking for ideas for a multicultural research project to conduct in both Rome and Bejing, China. If I can come up with a good project, I might be able to get my trip to Rome and Bejing paid for. The project can be basically anything I want to research as long as it involves both cultures, since my school has campuses in both Italy and China. I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into contemporary issues facing both countries, in politics or religion or anything, I willing to research just about anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

relate the origins of both countries deep rooted religions. catholicism vs. idolatry or something.
3 :
This is not so much contemporary but, it lays the basis for any connection between the two countries. You could try the foods, art, and clothing after time that Marco Polo visited China. The development of similarities or parallels through time after his visits. If you want contemporary, you could compare how Roman empire was at its beginning compares to how China is becoming a world economic power today and effects on the people, environment, culture, and the rest of the world.
4 :
For Italy. They took some local politicans and told them they were going to be interviewed for something. So the makeup people cleaned up their face, whiped their mouth and what not, and then took them to the interview. Then tests were done on the tissues used to clean the mouths of the politicians and it turns out 32% had trace amounts of illegal drugs in their saliva meaning they had smoked pot or taken coke in the last 8 days. These finds are trying to be covered up. For China. It is not the US who is paying for the war in Iraq, it's China, the US is up to their eyeballs finacially to China. That is how they will take over.
5 :
Hi, Why not "Tourism"? Both countries has this as a big industry. You could find more searching the internet. Here is a site you could start reading for Italy: http://www.italyexposed.com/index.shtml Check the index part at the right side, there are many different cathegories. I wish you good luck with your project and hope you will have a nice travel to both countries!

A very intersting and crucial topic is a study involving population growth and the way each culture is responding the demands of the increase of life expectancy and the need for resources and land development.
3 :
child birth, child birthing laws....number of children per family...sorta along that line...how the culture of having children differs so greatly in both countrys and what exactly influences it. OR why the architechural(spellcheck) structures of the buildings are so different(i mean from way back in the day)...why are the buildings that were built 100s of years ago built that way or differently OR whose culture can be tracked back furthest in time OR life expectancy of chinamen bs. italian men based on.....cultural something or another OR Where are china's beliefs vs. Italys cultural beliefs leading them in the future(for example...boys are more valued in china...so I do believe that there are more boys being born or at least kept in the family-that's gonna cause some trouble in the future)
4 :
In the press recently there has been a lot of talk about how Chinese business are setting up shop in Italy, hiring Chinese labourers and then sending then selling the goods in Italy. This has created small enclaves of Chinese communities, mainly in the Italian industrial north. There are a lot of business implications for the two countries as many Chinese learn about business, learn the language and then return to China and start up shop there and then export back to Italy since they know the language, etc. There are also issues of child labor and unfair working conditions of these Chinese communities in Italy also. I think it would warrant some decent research. Also recent tariffs slapped by Rome on Chinese goods as a way of protecting industries in Italy which are famous for their designer goods. So I guess you could look at the issues that plague Chinese businesses trying to export to Italy as well as look at what issues plague Italian businesses trying to export to China. There are lots of scenarios. If you can read Italian, you'll find a lot of information on Italian newspapers. I copied some articles in the source box that might be helpful to you. Another good project might be integration of Chinese into Italian daily life. This is a huge issue in Italy right now, especially with the murder of a Pakistani woman by her family for refusing to return to Pakistan for her arranged marriage. Dunno if my ideas were helpful. Good luck.
5 :
I think it would be really interesting to look at the role of the son in Italian and Chinese family life. In Italy, there are sooo many men who are 35+ years old, still living at home with mom and dad. Their moms do EVERYTHING for them! I think there's an expression called "mamone" or something, which translates to "big mothers". I've always thought that in China the children became more independent at a younger age, but then returned to the family home and supported their elderly parents. I think these issues relate primarily to the male children in the family.
6 :
China is having a strong impact on Italian manufacturing, especially in the Textiles and fashion worlds. Many Italian companies, the small ones, had to close because of the Chinese competition. The large ones (most Designers and even Bennetton), simply moved their production to China. You could study this and how it will effect both economies in the future.

Liceo Classico Firenze is the ALL Italian principal High School . " American International School of Florence ", Villa Tavernule , Via del Carota 23/25 , Bagno a Ripoli , Firenze , tel. +39-055-640033 . Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri , Via dei Bardi 12 tel. +39-055-2342984 . The British Institute of Florence , Lungarno Guicciardini 9 , tel . +39-055-284033 . You can look these schools up by entering the name and clicking . Language schools at Florence Italy will produce more choice , similarly Universities . Sorry I do not have their precise websites , telephone numbers might have been updated .
2 :
What exactly do you mean by historical high schools? The other respondent is right that "Liceo Classico" refers to a type of high school in all over Italy. They offer a liberal arts education focused on the classics of Greek and Latin. Two of the most famous in Florence are Dante Alighieri and Michelangeliolo. Their websites are here: www.liceoclassicodante.fi.it/ www.liceomichelangiolo.it/ The other major high schools in Italy are the Liceo Scientifico and Liceo Tecnico and there are others that focus on more specific topics, like tourism. However, the schools listed in a prior response, with the exception of the International School of Florence -- a private school where most of the instruction is in English -- are not high schools but rather private institutions. Centro Linguistico Dante Aligheri is a school that provides instruction for many University study abroad programs and the British Institute is a school that teaches English to Italians and Italian to English along with sponsoring other cultural activities. They also manage the largest English-language library open to the public in Florence.

Light layers. Good shoes for walking in, with museums etc in mind. Think good arch support.
2 :
Orla is right - the weather can be pretty variable here so layers are a practical way to go. One other thing that it might be useful to bring is a small folding umbrella that you can stick in your purse. The weather is usually nice at that time of year, but you could run into a shower. I've got a very small one that I carry in my pocket when I'm out just in case. It's been particularly useful the last week or so.

Layers. It might be warmer than northern Europe, but it's still spring.
3 :
In April in Italy the weather is fairly nice. You want to bring t-shirts, sweat shirts, jeans or other pants. Shoes - I wore sandals but it all depends on what weather you're used to. I live in Canada and in April it's a bit cooler here still so to me the weather was super nice. Bring an umbrella, sun glasses. I always have a thing with showers in hotels. I like to wear my sandals in showers. Also i would suggest bringing one or two towels with you. A lot of hotels seem to have only a few towels and they're quite small. Remember in Europe things are smaller! Try to pack as light as possible, because it's you who has to carry it all around! Don't forget your camera ;) Have fun! Italy is an awesome place to visit

You may wish to try booking through a travel agency that specializes in youth travel. A good one is STA Travel, which has offices near colleges all over the world. If anything, their knowledgeable travel agents are more familiar with the travel concerns of young travelers than a typical travel agency. Visit www.statravel.org or call their toll-free number at 800.781.4040. If you have a valid credit card, however, you should have no trouble booking a hotel room. (You probably don't want the expense of "renting a hotel" though!) By the way, if you are going to all the trouble and expense of visiting Europe, you should really extend your stay for more than a week to take full advantage of your vacation investment. You will lose two or three days of that week just in travel. (It takes two days to get to Europe unless you live in a gateway city such as Houston, L.A., New York, Chicago, etc.) Bon voyage!

I'm having a hard time finding these things on the internet... 1) What is a well known landform in Italy? 2)What is a manmade tourist attraction in Italy? 3)What are the ethnic groups in Italy (percentages?) 4)ALL of the landforms in Italy? 5)Languages (percentages)? 6) Food? thank you soo much!!

Not sure this is what you're asking. 1.Seven Hills....Rome 2. Fountain of Trevi. 3.???????? 4. Abruzi Mountains, Tuscany, Italian Alps, Vesuvius,(Pompei) & others. 5. Moors, Jewish, Germans, Chinese, Arabs, English, ???????? 6.All the Pastas & Gnocchi, Pasta Fagioli, (Pasta & beans, aka, pasta fazul), seafood, veggies, veal, beef, chicken, pizza, etc. (Northern Italy, near German border, Pasta mit kraut) Find an Italian menu at restaurants online. Hope this helps.
2 :
1) Landform - Italy itself is a "landform" in that it is shaped like a boot. In addition to the 7 hills of Rome, there the Piedmont and Alps in northern Italy. Additionally the two largest islands in the Mediterranean are Italian - Sicily and Sardinia. 2) Mandmade Tourist Attraction - Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Coliseum - come to my mind - but the list here is unimaginable - the Sistine Chapel, the Catecomes in Rome, the Last Supper in Florence, St. Mark's cathedral in Venice, just to name a few. 3) I am sorry, but I don't know about this one. It depends on how detailed a breakdown you want. 4) See #1 5) Italian is the official language, and nearly 100% of the population (with the exception of very remote and isolated rural areas). Other Languages and dialects include Gallo-Italic, Sicilian, Venetian, Emilia-Romania (northern Italy/Piedmont), Lombard, Sardinia, Piedmontese, Ligurian (Genoese), Friulian, Ladin, Franco-Provencal (obviously near France), and Neopolatin (Naples). Some of these are more distinctive and different from modern Italian, than others. I think you would have a difficult time geting percentages for these. 6) Italian food varies more regionally throughout the country than some people may realize. In northern Italy, the sauces tend to be creamier (e.g. Alfredo), while tomato-based sauces tend to be more prominent in the south. Much of what Americans perceive as "Italian" food is actually Sicilian. Food in Italy is much more of an "event" than it is in America. Spending 2-3 hours eating is expected. If you are having important company - it can last up to 5 hours. Meals are served in courses - often with only a single item at a time. Often salad (which we as Americans eat first) is served toward the end of the meal. Gelato is wonderful! Although it is often equated with "ice cream" it is made differently, and is much softer by design. I loved lemon sorbetto which is like a creamy lemon slushy! Yum!!
3 :
3) Gruppi etnici: Italians 96,5%, Albanians 0,5%, Moroccans 0,4%, Roumanians 0,3%, others 2,3%
4 :
I'll try. I am Italian, located in Italy. 1) boot 2) colosseum. 3) just one big group. Italians, which are mixed race since practically ever. Probably some percents of Roumanians and Maroccans. Several of these roumanians might be actually gipsies, which is an other ethnic group all together. 4) boot. 5) I would say 90% Italian. 5% Roumanian. 5% Arabic? see point 3. 6) Spagetti Noodles.
5 :
1- boot 2- they are a lot, more than in any other country. Colosseo, Torre di Pisa, L'Arena di Verona, Cappella Sistina . . . 3- Italy is populated by 56,5 million of Italians. There are 3,7 million foreigners (+700.000 in one year). Italians: 95,03% - Albanians 0,6% - from Morocco 0,58% - from Romania 0,58% - Chinese 0,25 % etc. You can get all the percentages on Wikipedia. 4- I don't understand what you exactly mean with 'landform' 5- people speak italian, foreigners learn it. many dialects are spoken anyway, every town has a proper dialect and speak italian with a particular accent... 6- you know italian food is unbelievable. pizza, pasta, rice, ice-cream, bread, cheese, meat, sweets... any town has proper foods.....

Hello!! M 4m India. Well I think ur querry lacks clarity. t isnt really clear whether u wanna know bout sailing in connection wid sm drama or career. If ur Qn relates 2 drama.....thn a script on da life of a mariner(say a merchant navy officer) can be a good idea. N if ts bout career thn thr is numerous matter 4 t...but ultimately i think 4 wt u r looking 4 u gotta make ur query a bit clearer.
2 :
ok,if you are referring to a movie script, 1492 may be a good idea(featuring gerard depardieu) if you should look for a book or likewise, i'd recommend hemingway's the old man and the sea. both have a connection to sailing and human nature in general.

Difference between student visa and schengen visa

Difference between student visa and schengen visa?
I am going to a language school in Italy and they are sending confirmation to the embassy i am enrolled there but I am still confused- should i fill out the student visa or schengen? Are they different and how thanks

1 :
The Schengen visa (type C) is valid for a stay of up to 90 days within a six months period. It is issued to tourist or business visitors of those countries that require to hold a prior visa to travel to Italy and the other 24 Schengen countries. The visa application involves a fee of € 60.00. The student visa (type D) is a long-stay national visa valid for Italy, however it also authorizes a 90 day stay in the other Schengen countries for 90 days per semester. The visa is free of charge for Italy. http://www.consdetroit.esteri.it/NR/rdonlyres/F15EA20D-8919-41AD-981A-C8B705A9E483/0/STUDIOGIUGNO20102.pdf .. The same application form will be used for both visa types for Italy. For main purpose of travel enter study in column 21.
2 :
As you seem to be from the US you don't need to worry about Schengen Visas. US citizens are entitled to stay in Italy (and the Schengen Zone) visa free from 90 days out of every 180 days. Schengen Visas are for people from countries that are not covered by the Schengen visa waiver scheme. Because you are going to Italy as a student you will need a Student Visa, and that's what you should apply for.

If I want to actually move in Italy visa or green card

If I want to actually move in Italy visa or green card?
So Im planning on going to a university in Rome, Italy and finish up school there...I know that for school Ill need to have a student visa. What about if I plan to stay there after that, what kind of citizenship id. do i need??? Thanks guys (:

That would be a long difficult process. You would first need to find an employer to sponsor your work visa. then, you would have to apply to become a permanent resident for 10years before applying for citizenship. You can research work visa requirements on the website of the Italian embassy or by contacting them. You will have plenty of time to do visa research and talk to the immigration office during your university years. the U.S. is the only country that has a "green card." It is the card given to people who have applied to immigrate to the U.S. and have been accepted.
2 :
One of the conditions of your student visa will be leaving at the end of the stay here. However, if you take advantage of your time here as a student to make useful contacts, it may make it easier to find a job and get a visa that does allow you to work later. Getting a visa that allows you to work and reside here depends on where you're coming from. Citizens of the EU have the right to live and work within the EU. It would be illegal for others to do so without a proper visa. After school, you would need to go back to your country and apply for a work visa assuming you're not an EU citizen. You don't have to become a citizen to reside here - it would take ten years to qualify for applying for citizenship unless you qualify by other means such as Italian ancestry. Visas that allow work are more difficult. The site for visas here in Italy is: http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp . The site includes links to the application forms and information about what supporting documentation you need for each type of visa. You have to get the visa before you move here. A work permit is separate - you cannot apply for that yourself. the company has to apply and they have to be able to demonstrate that there is not a viable EU candidate for the job. When I applied for a visa several years ago, the process took about 8 months even though it was just of transfer of the job I was already doing from the US to Italy. After you arrive, you need to apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno which is the document that actually allows you to reside here. It's useful to check the expat sites for information about living here: http://www.escapeartist.com/ http://www.expatica.com/ http://www.expatsinitaly.com/ Generally, these will have a lot of good information on daily life and negotiating the bureaucracy when you arrive and provide you with useful information you should know before you make the transition. Right now, there are not many jobs available and the cost of living is high.

How much money is ideal to take to Italy

How much money is ideal to take to Italy?
In September, I am going on an exchange trip with my school for 28 days to Italy. So that's basically all of september. I'm just wondering how much money (in Euro) would be around a good amount to take. I will be traveling to Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Pompeii, and then two weeks in Milan. I was thinking around the 1000 Euro mark... but that's just a guess. It's not backed up with anything. So advice be great thanks. Experiences and such :D Thankyou!

Oh, how exciting! I would take more than 1,000 though! Try, at the least, 1,400 - just in case of emergencies. Maybe even a bit more than that.
2 :
i took 1000 cash and 1000 on a card... it was way too much (i stayed two months). i was even paying for things like food everyday. it really depends on how much you buy, for example, my money would have gone in a day if i started buying jeans or something. remember, everything is gonna cost heaps more. refrain from buying stuff that's jsut cheaper in your country and you'll be fine! haha
3 :
Hi there! Lucky you! It really depends how much you wanna do and see. Are you gonna be paying for the transportation? Trains between these cities? Hydrofoils to Capri? Vaporettos in Venice (http://www.mediterranean-cruise-ports-easy.com/vaporetto.html)? Do you wanna see the museums? Buy some souvenirs? You probably won't be able to survive on Mc Donalds, little tramezzini sandwiches or pizza slices for 28 days, either, so keep in mind that a modest meal in these touristy cities can be at least Euros 20 (and that's cheep). In Italy, be aware of the prices displayed on the menus because there are cover charges/service charges on top of that. So take at least one meal a day like that, a bottle of water, entrance to a venue/museum, an ice-cream, maybe some transportation...honestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable without at least 40-50 euros per day. But that's just me...:) Good luck, and enjoy Italy, it's beautiful! Med Chick

Italy, of course. Italy has a lot of interesting culture and history. About languages, Switzerland has four official languages.

Is it a wise decision to remain in italy to finish high school.

Is it a wise decision to remain in italy to finish high school.?
Hi everyone. Its my first year of high school and I decided to start it in italy. I've done my first eight years of school in the US. I know the education is better here in europe and that it would be very "handy" to perfect my italian but I'm afraid that it would cripple my chances to get into a good university back in the states. Will I be at a disadvantage with my english? Will universities consider my being here in a foreign country for high school as a plus or a minus? Will it affect my act and sat scores? Please answer. Thanks.

Ireland - in secondary schools, where the age group is 12 or 13 to 18, the school year begins on 1st September and ends at the end of May. Primary school (age 4 or 5 to 12 or 13) goes from September to the end of June, but in recent years they have gone back to school in the last days of August. I think this is to compensate for longer holidays over Christmas and Easter. I don't know about Germany or Italy, though you should be able to find out on google.
2 :
Bluebell's answer for Ireland is fine, depending on whether you mean school or university. In Germany, it depends on what region you're in. The German authorities stagger the school holidays simply as a means of controlling congestion in holiday areas of the country. One thing you might want to do is rephrase your question: in Europe 'school' is ALWAYS school you go to until you're 18 to 20, it means what you'd call High School. As an exchange student, I assume you mean university student, therefore you need to be specific if it is indeed university you mean.
3 :
Depending on the region, a school year (for ordinary schools) in Germany usually begins in August/September and ends in June/July. I don't know about universities, either.

You can have a look at this: http://www.scuolapalazzomalvisi.com That's a school for foreign students who want to learn Italian laguage in Florence, Bagno di Romagna and Ravenna. Bagno di Romagna is a place in the hills for older people. I'd recommend Florence, because it's a beautiful city or Ravenna if you come in summer. In summer my family and I host foreign girls who come to Ravenna to study our language... and it's always a great experience! ^_^ Good luck!

I am going to Italy this summer with my high school choir. I am really excited but i dont know what to wear...
I know that we are going to Rome, Milan and Venice. I also know that Italy is a place of fashion and fun. I want to dress causal but still fashion forward. I have heard from classmates that there are dress restrictions for going to the churches in Italy. What are they exactly? Are sun dresses appropriate? Jeans or shorts? Tanktops? Please Help....

2 :
hey! I went to Italy in summer 06, so I can answer your questions. Honestly, italian people dress just like american people. Just wear what you like. AND NO, NOT SWEAT PANTS! ;) I wore a lot of skirts and tight jeans and really nice shirts.. I wore jewelry (like the ones from claire's).... and I did my hair everyday. As for the church thing. YES, they do have restrictions. You have to wear something that covers the shoulders, and most of your legs. so.. NO SHORTS AND SKIRTS. I just wore a sundress that went down to my knees, and a shrug/shawl that went down to wrists over it. xD
3 :
okay, so this summer i went to italy for my third time. we went for a month, and it was SUPER fun. you will love it. first of all, yes, the churches do have restrictions. you have to were shoulder covering shirts, (no tanks) modest shirts (not a lot of cleavage) and sometimes no short shorts. you can always but a shawl for cheap to cover your shoulders if you forget, i had to do that alot. second, when we visited rome, it was really hot. you will want to bring all your typical summer clothing for italy, but bring some light layers for night, it gets colder then. if you really don't want to be an obvious tourist, then bring a nicer skirt or casuel dress for lunch. as you may know, lunch is the biggest meal of the day in italy, and it is considered inappropriate to wear little tiny pants and shirts for that. sun dresses are perfect, i practically lived in those. oh, and bermuda shorts do wonders, they are the perfect length thirdly, the fashion in italy in always changing. bring items of clothing that are timeless and cute. you can always but something while you are there. have lots of fun! i hope i helped, and have a lovely trip! <3
