i think you should go to the place that you thought about first, your heart knows where it wants to go. but as for me.. i live in washington and can go to new york any time so i would choose Italy

i would go to italy if u want romance or new york if u want loudness shopping isd in both places

Hi Sara! I was in Edmonton a few years back, what a pretty city you live in! My guess is that finances will determine where your school ends up going...clearly Italy will be more expensive for obvious reasons, but it's the place that I would recommend to you. I lived in NYC for 2 years and it's great for seeing museums, Ground Zero, and the Statue of Liberty. A Broadway production is always exciting, too. But to be able to go to Europe, and to go YOUNG is such a rare opportunity for students in the USA and Canada. In Italy you will see what remains of the layers of civilization that existed, especially in Rome and Pompeii. Experiencing another culture and language teaches you far more than you can imagine. Italy is beautiful, it's cuisine is worldclass and all of those designer labels you see in NYC from Italy are far less expensive in Rome, Florence, and Milan. Whatever you decide, Sara, learn and see everything that you can, and have a wonderful time!
4 :
Italy is a great place to visit as you must already know; I've lived here for the past ten years. However, with family here it's likely you'll be able to come back and visit here again. If you've never been to New York, you might want to do that and experience something different.

How many languages do you recommend someone take in high school

How many languages do you recommend someone take in high school?
From either experience or even having just heard info about this. I really wanted to take italian this summer at a community college that i will also be taking a writing class in. I am a sophomore now, 16, and going to be a junior next year, i will also be taking college in high school for credits. So i will take a german class that is joint with an english class(hope that makes sense). To prepare myself im going to take a writing class...but i wanted to take italian. If i take italian and it was offered again, at another quarter then i would take the second course. BUT...because i want to go into the medical field, i am now torn because i am being offered to take Latin. What do you think? I also want to go to europe again....possibly a cooking school in italy or france. I understand that kids in other countries learn tons of languages at once and take extensive courses, but im not set up that way and im scared of trying it but i also want a challenge. Also, i was thinking of seperating the classes...like german first year (this upcoming yr) and then italian/latin.....what do you think?

The art institutes are known for their culinary program, that might be something you want to consider. Also, before making a decision, visit the culinary schools that you are interested in.

Here is my recommendation....The CIA (Culinary Institute of America ) or Johnson & Wales University is an excellent school, Kendall University in Chicago,IL. is a pretty good school too, but I think I would look into the Le Cordon Bleu program at a culinary college near you or you can contact them on line..They are many schools that offer the LCB program..Their main office is located in Schaumburg, IL. but have many schools across the US. With this school after you graduate the cooking and baking classes, you can also further your studies for higher degrees thru them and they are recognized the world over. They also offer the LCB courses at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, Il. (CHIC),extremely expensive but extremely worth it.You can write your own paycheck after that..seriously...It would also be cheaper tuition if you went to college in your home state, rather than paying twice the amount for out of state tuition.....Are you referring to the Culinary Art Institute in Chicago,IL.?? If so I am not familiar with their programs...DO YOUR HOMEWORK before deciding on a culinary school..MY choiices would be Johnson&Wales, Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu.I hope this helps and good luck, if you have further questions, email me.....

Congrats on winning the scholarship. I would also recommend CIA or le cordon bleu, they are good culinary schools.

Really worried! I'm in my best friends wedding & I was accepted 2 school out of the country. What should I do

Really worried! I'm in my best friends wedding & I was accepted 2 school out of the country. What should I do?
Last April I applied to a school in Italy to Study for my Masters. At the time I was Wait listed Due to the fact that they can only take 12 students a semester. Then Jan 3rd of this year my best friend asked me to be in her wedding and I told her Yes. Well today I received my acceptance letter to the University. The semester starts Sept 12th and is until Dec 13. Her Wedding is Nov 7th. If I go to this school I will not be able to be in her wedding. I Can't afford to spend another 1200 on a plane ticket for 3days. This school is costing me 20,000 dollars a semester. Not including books and living expenses. I didn't mention to my friend that I had been wait listed at the time she asked me to be in her wedding because I didn't think I was ever going to get in and was getting ready to start looking at other schools. I feel really torn I know that getting married is a really big step in someones life. I love my best friend and I dont want to hurt her feelings. But I also have waited over a year to get into this University and if I turn it down I will probably never get another chance. This is my final step go reaching my lifes goal and now I feel like I can't even be happy about it. So what I'm asking is does anyone have any advice on how I should bring this up to my friend and what I should say? I know that my friend has always been there for me and I know that I could always just finish my masters at my current school but this is my dream Help!

a lot of people aren't going to like my answer so I'm prepping for the thumbs down. Her wedding is not contributing to your future and it won't further you in life and it won't support you but your education will. You call her ASAP and tell her that you were accepted into the Master's Program of your first choice school you were wait listed on and you're very sorry but you won't be able to attend her wedding and you wanted to let her know so she could replace you. Then you buy her something for her home while you're in Italy and send it to her for her wedding gift. I'd like to think that she's a real friend and she'll be disappointed that you won't be there but thrilled for you. Congratulations! ::squeeing and jumping up and down for you::

What's the best option for international calling cards [US call to Italy]

What's the best option for international calling cards [US call to Italy]?
My boyfriend is in culinary school in Italy through October. I've reached my breaking point with the quality of Skype so I'm looking into calling cards. I live in Connecticut & I'll be making the calls from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tour, if that matters. But I have zero knowledge of calling cards & I have three month old triplets; which results in me having zero time for any research. The price doesn't really matter - but the more minutes the better. Thanks in advance!

How to fit in at a new school

How to fit in at a new school?
okay well, I have actually been in the school since september now, but the school is full of Italians (even though its a british school...in italy), I can't really relate to them. I have some friends atm, ones that are british and I'm used to travelling so Im international. I performed drums in front of everyone during my 2nd week, and i was known from then on (best day of my life) , but not in a popular way. Like people signify me as the drummer, but doesnt mean im gonna hang out with them on weekends and etc. I've started to make small talk with some in school, what do you think i could do to relate to them more?

Help question on school IB

Help question on school IB?
Okay this is probably the most stupid way to get what I'm looking for but there's no harm in trying out something right? I'm in an IB school in italy and I hoping that for the end of the course I will be able to get into an american university( yes I'm very informed on all the procedures, costs etc, no worry on that front), the only problem is that I'm very unhappy where I am, and I wanted to look for another IB school possibly in the US, with campus. My question is, where would I even start looking for some schools? Like on the IBO website? or do you know any places where you'd go to find informations if it was you ? Please help me, even if this is not much at least it something!

Hi, I work with The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS for short), a non-profit with more than 300 member schools in both North America and abroad.TABS (www.boardingschools.com) is a great resource for finding another IB school in the U.S. One of the best ways to check out different boarding schools is to use TABS School Browser. You can enter the school name if you have a particular school in mind, or search by zip code, and even view an A-Z listing of nearly 300 member schools. Each school has its own page and profile with lots of key information, and you can request info from multiple schools at once. It’s quite the time-saver! Also, the TABS Guided Search tool lets you refine your search even more. You can search by gender, specialty, grade levels, and location. You can even add more targeted criteria including courses, arts, and athletic interests. It’s perfect for those who know what they want—and helps those who don’t to figure it out. Check out both at http://www.boardingschools.com/find-a-school.aspx

Hello, My 15 year old daughter wants to be an exchange student in Italy (not sure what part) should I let her

Hello, My 15 year old daughter wants to be an exchange student in Italy (not sure what part) should I let her?
She wants to go for 3 months to immerse in the culture, and she claims it will broaden her future career prospects (not sure if she made that up!) She is alomst fluent in Italian and speaks it all the time but it is frustrating for her that nobody at home can understand LOL. But I have heard of all the gypsies and Mafia and rapists and murderers in italy! especially the cities so I am worried. She would be staying with a host family and oging to school in Italy but I am soooo worried!

Couldn't hurt, and it would be good for her to see more of the world.
2 :
Let her do it. It is a great opportunity for her and it will look good in the future.
3 :
There are mafias and rapists everywhere honey. Right now is one of the only opportunity for your daughter to be able to be free and learn about other parts of the world. I think you should let her go.
4 :
Sounds to me like she wants some italian guy to *coughs* immersed in her...I wouldnt let her until she is a bit older. That way when she comes home with an italian mans baby, youll be more relaxed when shes older. Im totaly serious.
5 :
I don't know. Now a days its too much violence I wouldn't rust it. Last thing you would want to do is get your daughter mixed up in something or someone you done know the first thing about.
6 :
The ups outweigh the downs. In some places, Italy is like a museum you can touch. You think the US doesn't have all that? Check out the news, the stats.
7 :
Yes, you should let her go! She can learn about the culture and everything there and what it's ike to live there. Also, if you give her money to see if she buys things but is responsible and still brings some amount of money back! And, well, I may be only 11, but I know what I'm talking about. Hope this helps! P.S. Your going to have to let her live her own life sometimes. :D
8 :
It's true that doing a foreign exchange program can help future career prospects. Anything to set you apart from the crowd.
9 :
I would have loved to have an experience like that as a teen. It sounds like a great opportunity and a lot of fun. I'm sure a lot of Italians worry about their daughters coming to America (here I am assuming you're American) because they hear stories about shootings and gangs and so on. I would imagine that Italy would be no more dangerous than America. If you let her go though, make sure you have talked to her about safety, how you expect her to act around stranger, what she is allowed to do and not allowed to do, where she is allowed to go and with whom, and when she is allowed to go out. Also think about giving her pepper spray (if that's legal in Italy) for a little piece of mind. You know your daughter and how mature she is, so you will have to decide. If you think she is ready though, don't hold her back. Ask yourself if she is the one who is not ready, or if it's YOU who isn't ready. You'll have to let her go sooner or later and if you do it while she's young you can influence her in the right way. If you don't let her go until she is 18, then she will be outta there without looking back and you will have no control over what she does and what she gets into.
10 :
let her go, but find out where, get contact details with her and the family she is staying with, use a translator site if they don't speak english and don't think about what can go wrong! the first time i got on a plane was the day after i watch a movie about a plane crash, not the smartest thing to so, but i realized the odds of our plane going down and i went anyway, the odds of anything happening to your daughter are not very high, plus it sounds like a school organized trip so they wouldnt send her to an unsafe place.
11 :
I think criminals be everywhere in this world, there is no place be safe enough. the day which she face the whole society will definitely come. so now she is 15 years old and it's time for her to learn more by individual living. she is right, let her go and god bless her.
12 :
definately!!!you should let her go. its going to be a great experience for her..and dont worry that something might happen..she's 15 now and by sending her on this program, she'll learn more about the world around her,and become a mature person.
13 :
i am 15. i already when abroad for 2 weeks all by myself (with friends) to a summer school and i went alone to beijing for a week. i think maybe she has an italian friend she doesnt say you about or something like that. but i would let her go especially if shes going to live with a host family. but make sure that you contact a host family before she goes because they might not be good people and that is the case you should worry about more.
14 :
let her do it!!!!!! i'm italian and i live in milan. in july i'm going to nz for 6 months for an exchange program and i think that it's a very important experience. please believe me, italy is not so terrible and it isn't absolutely as dangerous as you say!!!!!!!!!!!!!! last year i went to L.A. and it is more dangerous than milan! mafia is everywhere in the world and not only here! this idea is only a prejudice! italy is very beautiful for its nature, for its history, for its culture and its art! and milan is fabulous for shopping(even if it's quite expensive)!!!! ^^ the best parts of italy where to live, in my opinion, are lombardia (where there is milan), toscana, umbria, piemonte and emilia romagna. but every area is fantastic!!! my mom is worried too. it's normal! i will go to the other side of the world alone!! but she knows that this experience is very important and it's my dream. (i'm sorry for my terrible english...)
15 :
about the mafia you shouldn't worry..they won't hurt her! rapists and murderers are everywhere, they don't have their general headquarters in italy!there are gypsies(but not everywhere!), she just have to pay attention to where she goes especially in the evening..but generally if she avoids some areas it's safe!
16 :
im an exchange student now in germany. and personally i think you should let her go. it might not open her prospects,. only being gone three months, but shell certainly become more independent. but i would honeslty only let her go if shes already pretty independent. otherwise its going to suck for her and shes going to feel like a total loner not knowing the language and if shes staying with a host family, most european host families are wealthy and live in safer areas ;D
17 :
Let her go!!! It will be an amazing experience and she will come back much more worldly! It will also look good for colleges! I don't think you should worry about rapists, Mafia, or murderers in Italy. It is a very 1st world country and is generally pretty safe. I wouldn't worry about the host family. These people are mostly just curious about other cultures and want to have an intercultural experience too! It would be really awesome for her!

Do I have a chance getting in an Ivy league school

Do I have a chance getting in an Ivy league school?
Hi, I'm currently a freshman in high school (in Italy), play soccer, and play the piano. Last year, I decided to leave my home and family, to study in an Italian high school. I left, barely knowing Italian, and was housed with some distant relatives. With hard work and diligence, I learned Italian and finished the school year with high grades (sometimes the best in my class). Now, I'm coming home to be re-enrolled into high school in the states. The high school accepted my grades and I will be attending it in August. Do you guys think this experience will be a plus for getting into college? I also play competitive soccer and am pretty good at it. I am on a traveling team playing every weekend in places sometimes as far as 6 hours away. I play the piano at an advanced level, have won many competitions, and received an honorable mention for playing in the Alabama State Conference. Last year in middle school (8th grade) I scored a 2800 on my ACT. My dream is to go to Stanford or MIT but do I have the potential? If not, what do I need to participate in, or achieve?

Well, first off, neither MIT nor Stanford are Ivy League schools. The Ivy Leagues schools are an athletic conference that includes eight top schools on the east coast, but not the two you listed (one of which is on the west coast). Also, a 2800 on the ACT doesn't make much sense, since the highest score is 36. Maybe you meant SAT, but the top score there is 2400, so that still doesn't make sense. As far as the Italy thing, it makes you interesting, but it will not be a big selling point for you. I would guess that it will have no impact on your admissions. Soccer and music will help your application, but you will not get into top schools just because you are good at those two things. Really, everything you have said so far doesn't make much impact on your application or chances of getting in. So I have no idea if you will have the potential to get into MIT or Stanford. What you need to do is get great grades in the most difficult classes and do well on the SAT/ACT. If you can do that, then your chances will increase. But you would still need to put together a good application and have strong extracurricular activities. Perhaps piano and soccer will be sufficient for your EC's, but I guess it really matters how good you are and how devoted you are. (Driving 6 hours to play in a tournament, by itself, is not that impressive.) So, yeah, good grades in difficult classes. Do that, and you will start to improve your chances.

Is it possible for me to home school my children

Is it possible for me to home school my children?
Soon my fiance and I will be getting married and hopefully starting a family of our own. My problem is, he is a citizen of Italy and although I'm a citizen of the united states, we plan on living in his country. Now i'm not sure from what i've been looking at, is home schooling in Italy illegal and if it is, considering my status as a US citizen is their anyway can i still home school them? Any information would be great help, thank you! Wow i didnt know about that! i'll definitely be asking my fiance about it! >.> Also it is planning for the future, i don't have any children yet,^^.

From what I know of Italy, probably not unless you are going to live on a U.S. military base. I really wouldn't want to live there as their laws concerning the family and its dynamics are horrid. Go to www.parentalrights.org and you'll find lots more than you ever wanted to know! If you want the best for your family, don't move there. The birth rate there is dropping like a stone and for good reason. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like this time, there isn't much of a choice. Your children can be removed from your home on "suspicion' that you "might" be doing something bad. All it takes is one phone call from a disgruntled person...and your children are in state custody.
2 :
From what I can see at HSLDA, homeschooling is legal in Italy; it's not as widespread as in the US, but it's legal. There are apparently groups that are trying to make extra curricular activities available, but currently they are available part-time through some schools. Do you have children of school age right now, or are you thinking ahead to when you have them? Oy...seeing what the Italian government does, I agree with the poster above me. I don't think you could pay me to raise children there.
3 :
OMG, as a homeschooling auntie to two children for the past two years I also read the report and it scared the living daylight out of me. I did further research as I do not like to take info from just one source and there are so many concerns regarding rights of a family right now, I would seriously consider having a long chat with your husband to be asap. What does he think of this?. Not wanting to be an alarmist but where do you think you will stand with your children if push comes to shove about not just their rights but yours under the laws of the country.

Help with Middle School

Help with Middle School!?
Im going into 8th Grade in August and im really scared and belive me you would too. For 8 years I went to a tiny private school in Italy so now Im moving back to America and I have no idea what Public Middle schools are like there. I have an orientation to look around the school but im still scared. I only know one girl there but she has her own friends so she wont be bothered about me. Here are my Questions: 1) How do you know where your classes are and were your Homeroom is? 2)What do you wear? (I dont want to look like a dork) 3) What will it be like at the orientation? 4) Is the math super Hard? Thank for all your help XooooXXX

whoa middle schools here are tough cause people always look at what u wear howu are and they are plain mean but not all are like that.
2 :
1 - Your school schedule should have all the room numbers on it along with the teacher names. During your walk through, be sure to go to every one - take a pad and write down something memorable it's next to, such as a bulletin board, music room, etc... 2 - I'm sure you have cute clothes - Wear what you find interesting and expresses your personality...If you're looking ot buy something new, try going to the mall and looking at other people your age, and at the manequins in stores targeting your age group. 3 - The orientation I'm not sure. Most orientations are warm and comfortable. Will a parent be with you? They basically lay groundwork and finish up any paperwork, answer questions, etc... 4 - Coming from Italy, American math should be simple to you. School is a challenge, the math wont be hard, it should be challenging. Good luck! Just be yourself and dont worry about what other people think. Be confident, focus on school. You will make friends I promise, dont be scared.
3 :
Okay i have to say if you have something in common with this girl you should give it a try and talk to her if she doesn't like you try and expand your social network by talking to the person at the next desk over. 1) My school usually gives out a folder with a map and calender if that's not the case don't be afraid to ask a teacher where they are. 2) Anything cheap and cute, you don't have to spend all your money on clothes. Buy something your age nothing to loose or to tight you don't want anyone calling you a slut. 3) You'll be shown around the school and most likely that's where you'll see your classes, you get to talk to your new teacher and maybe even make some friends while walking around. It won't be scary at all =) 4) It is for some people but if you really try your best and study it won't be as bad as everyone says. I'm going into 8th grade this year to i feel your pain =)
4 :
generally, you can find your classes at the orientation if you have the room number. Most people shop at stores like American Eagle, Aeropostale, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Pac sun etc.Orientations are held by the principal and a couple of students to show you around the school and tell you info about the school and your math skill just depends on how smart you are.
5 :
1) How do you know where your classes are and were your Homeroom is? There are number/letter combinations [for example A23] right beside every room. Then you have this scheduel that shows you like Math:A43 Social:B32 and then you just look for the door with the same number/letter and there's your class! It's not too difficult, and if you need help just ask a student or a teacher, they're there to help! 2)What do you wear? (I dont want to look like a dork) Jeans and a tshirt/sweatshirt. A lot of students wear brandnames, but not everyone. Just keep your outfit simple like a cute pair of jeans or a skirt; layered tshirt and some flats or cute shoes. 3) What will it be like at the orientation? Every school is different. Mine was where the teachers talked to you for a while in the auditorium and then you look around the school for a while at your own pace. 4) Is the math super Hard? It's not at all. Just listen in class and study for the tests and you'll do just fine. And you if you don't get it right away just ask the teacher for extra help on the assignment after class. They're always willing to help.
6 :
LOL. First day of school fright. Happens to everyone. I am also going into 8th grade. But i have been in that school for a while so its nothing new. Lucky you have an orientation because that will be the time when they explain everything you need to know. Where to go, where is your homeroom and there will also be a schedule that tells you where to go, what room, and what time. And the math is not going to be real hard. You will think that but its not. Its like 7th grade math but on a higher level. Also don't worry about clothes. It depends if it is uniformed or not. If it is uniformed just say thank you. And if it is not still say thank you but wear what you want. Something that will look fabola(Cathy Hopkins) So good luck.
7 :
1. In my school, there are lists posted of who is in what homeroom. 2. Look around your city/town, see what kids your age are wearing. Unless it's a private school, jeans and a t-shirt seem to work. 3. I'm not sure what type of orientation it is, but it probably won't be too bad. It might even be fun, getting to know people and all! 4. If you're decent at math, it's not too hard. It's probably easier then what you took at a private school. If you have any concerns or questions, it really helps to talk to the principal with your parents

Don't worry so much, you'll be fine! 1) when you get your back-to-school packet, they'll send you a map of the school. It will help if you find your classes on the map, and find the route you'll be walking, in order of periods, to each class. Then go to the school and walk it! That way you won't be lost. 2) Wear your most comfortable and cute outfit. You'll be meeting lots of new people so you want to look your best, but not be uncomfortable. Have your own style, and don't let anyone make fun of you; hey, you're fresh from Italy! 3) It will be craaaaaaaaaaaazy at orientation. People running everywhere after the long summer. Don't worry, you'll have lots of fun and chat with as many new people as you can! 4) the math wasn't hard for me...but maybe in Italy you were on a different math track. Don't stress; if it's too hard, you can drop to a lower math class, or get a tutor. Relax and be yourself! Good luck!

I really want to go to boarding school

I really want to go to boarding school?
My mom went to an international school in Italy (she had an amazing time) and has made it clear she doesn't want to send me to a boarding school because she'd "miss me too much". I'm embarrassed to ask my dad because he will probably just laugh and he's going to jail for fraud and embezzlement in less than a month so his opinion won't matter much anyway. We have the money to send me away, my current private school is $25,000. Anyway, I'm technically paying for everything via my trust fund (my mom controls it until I'm 25 years old). How do I convince my parents that boarding school would be good for me? -I get pretty good grades (A student) -I have a good amount of friends at my current school (23 best friends out of the 50) -BUT I want to try something new I'm Thinking: Emma Willard in New York? I'm thinking more of Lawrence Academy. My parents know a lot of people who went there and I REALLY want to go there! Anyway, I have to write a paper for everything I want so that won't convince them

ask your dad anyway, and have a talk with your mom and your dad about it. it doesnt hurt to ask.
2 :
Tell your mom that its a great opportunity for you to prepare for college. If you plan on living in a dorm, you'll be totally used to it by the time you get to college.
3 :
It's hard to say because I've never done this successfully. I brought up the topic last year to my parents, and they thought a parent would be out of their minds to send their child away, and they had no intentions of letting me go before I graduated high school. You are already a hard worker, and have good social skills. What I find effective in most situations is to write a paper or a presentation (like a poster or powerpoint) to show your parents why you deserve what you want, what you will do to get what you want, and how you will behave once you have what you want. First, make a list of all these things. Include what benefits you'd get from going to that school. Unless they do admissions later than most, or you have advantages from being a legacy at the school, your time is running out to apply/enroll, but I'm sure you already know that given you go to a private school now. I know that each of the schools I'm applying to must have all of my information by January 15. I spent two weeks at a boarding school this summer, and it was amazing. I met these amazing girls from Korea and France, and many other places. (I went to Emma Willard, you've probably heard of it - I heard it's well known on the East Coast.) Also, your mom might not be telling you everything about her experience. Boarding school could be a lot of fun, but some of the people there could be trouble. You'll be meeting those kind of people that get into alcohol, sex, and drugs, and your parents won't be able to keep you from them. They'll have no idea what you are doing, or who you are doing it with, and that will scare them. Your mom probably wants what she thinks is best for you. I think you should make an organized proposal, but don't be surprised or upset if your parents say no. Good luck!

after watching zoey 101 it made me wanna go to a boarding school lol persuade them its a good way to get used to having room mates when you get to collage!

How to find a school over seas to attend for a high school year

How to find a school over seas to attend for a high school year?
I'm a sophomore this year at an average high school, but my grades are all A's and should be the same this year, but next year for my junior year I really want to attend a high school in Italy or another country like that. (If there is a really excellent school I could attend in the US. I would also be open to that idea) But I really just need to find a web page or someone I can talk to about helping me find a school and registering for that. It doesn't need to specialize in anything; music would be nice, design would be nice, anything in the arts would work just fine. Again it doesn't need to be specifically for any of those. Thank you so much!

l'm going to Italy next year

l'm going to Italy next year?
Two of my friends and I are going with school to Italy for ten days next year. I'm trying to learn fluent Italian (it's actually coming along really well!). I want to know the best restaurants in: Venice, Florence, Orvieto, Capri, Rome, the Vatican area, and Sorrento. We want to go somewhere that isn't crowded with tourists but isn't hard to access from the main streets of the city, and is safe for three sixteen year old girls to be going, maybe with a couple of other people. What would you recomend. Oh, and where would you go shopping. Nothing too expensive, but good quality. Thanks so much!! Yikes, typo in the title. I meant I'm I love being overly prepared SERIOUSLY!

In Rome shopping is no prob. If you go to local markets you'll find what you're looking for. My school senior trip is hopefully to Rome too! I hope the proposal is accepted I'm really exited. They always go to florida or upstate NY so It would be nice to see a change PS. Relax you have time!
2 :
go home!
3 :
good for you
4 :
You will be surprised how easy it is to get around, if you know French or Spanish....but it doesn't hurt to know Italian. Most signs have several languages posted....you will be fine there. I enjoy eating where the locals eat...however ...I do not recommend that two sixteen year olds go wandering in the cities....Americans do not have the best of reputations...there. In fact I would recommend you stay with your group...please. You can still enjoy yourself..there is so much to do... Most cities have a market for shopping....and it is alright to bargain....but be respectful...don't expect something for nothing...that is an insult. Oh...watch for "knock offs"....you will find people selling Prada knock offs on the street corner...do not buy them...they will be taken from you at customs...and you could be fined...
5 :
To eat, if you're learning italian, give a look to the wilki 2spaghi where u can find restaurants of all kind, rated by customers and updated. Shopping in Capri, Venice and Sorrento could be very expansive. Rome give a lots of opportunity .... for every budget and near or along the main streets ... Have a nice time in Italy!

What is the easiest and cheapest way to get to Rome, Italy

What is the easiest and cheapest way to get to Rome, Italy?
A friend and I are looking to spend the summer between high school and college WWOOFing in Italy. I've looked into everything and the only hangup is how to get there. Is flying directly to Rome best, or would flying to London or Paris and then hopping a train/renting a car and driving be the less expensive?
Other - Europe - 2 Answers

The way flights work these days, most likely flying to any other capital or main city in Europe with a connecting flight. Use comparison sites like Skyscanner or Kayak, (google will find them and others for you) and see for yourself. Often it is cheaper to fly on with a local flight than to fly direct. A flight to Rome via London will be about the same as a flight to London via Rome, while direct flights to either London or Rome will be more expensive. I took London as example, but it works the same for almost every city in Europe now. Renting a car will never be the cheap option, first of all, at the age you are before going to college you will be too young to rent a car from any but the most expensive companies, if them. Petrol/gas is very expensive and rental prices are several times as high as in the USA. On top that will come an international drop off charge which can be as high as your intercontinental flight, not the cheap option. Train travel is much cheaper and if you can find a flight that is very cheap to an other Italian airport it can be an option, but when you talk about international train travel in Europe, you talk about amounts of money that are bigger than most plane tickets within Europe. So a connecting flight is likely, a direct flight your second option. If you can not find anything on internet, walk in with your local travel agency. I know mine always saves me money on long distance travel, even though I know where to search for the tickets. She is so much better at it.
2 :
I would definitely say aovid trying to rent a car. I drive regularly from the UK down to Italy and it's not a journey I would do for pleasure. Also, the price of petrol at the moment is very expensive in Europe generally - around €1.20 per litre - and tolls right the way down also add to the cost. And that's before you talk about the cost of renting. The cost we allow ourselves of driving down from the UK to Rome, including petrol and tolls but not including rental or ferry, is around £400 or $650. It won't be much less from Paris. Trains in mainland Europe (i.e. from France to Italy for example) are very efficient but not cheap. Paris to Rome takes about fifteen hours and is an overnight train (the Artesia). At the moment the cost is around €180 or $260. Try looking at prices from wherever you live to London or Paris, and then looking at Ryanair from there to Rome. Ryanair are a budget airline within Europe. Their flights are very cheap - I have just come back from flying UK to Rome and it cost me £15 return - about $50, including all taxes. At the moment fares from Paris to Rome are showing at about $25 single trip including taxes. Their website is http://www.ryanair.com - don't expect a luxurious airline though - you get what you pay for. Enjoy your time in Europe - however you get there.

should i study veterinary medicine for a year in italy

should i study veterinary medicine for a year in italy?
Hi! i'm a senior in a high school in Arizona, and i know its early to think of this, but i really would like to do a study abroad program during one of my college years to go Italy for a semester or a year :) I want to study veterinary medicine in college. I really want to experience a new culture, and I've grown an interest in Italy, plus I love the Italian language. How are the science schools in italy? Is it worth doing it there, or do you suggest other countries that are better in the sciences for studying abroad? I'm fluent in spanish(native) and english, and i love learning new languages so that wont be a problem. thanks :)

You would not be able to study vet medicine in Italy, In America that is actually a graduate program, so for your undergrad you are not studying vet medicine anyway, and they would not be teaching veterinary medicine in English there, you would have to score very high in the Italian placement test. Most veterinary graduate programs do not allow study broad, just to let you know. So you can go during your undergraduate study.

under 18 and going to Italy for 2 weeks

under 18 and going to Italy for 2 weeks?
My school is going to Italy for 2 weeks this April. I could easily go but the problem is that I'm still Canadian permanent resident and not yet a citizen. (which also means, I don't have a Canadian passport.) You have to be 18 to apply for a visa, and you only really need it if you're staying there for more than 90 days. I'm neither. I was wondering if I still need to apply for some sort of visa and if I do, how and where? Where can I get more information about what to do in this case?

First, you should know that you're under your county of origin visa agreement rules with Italy .if you think your country people need visa to go to Italy, then you need to obtain one.Go to this site & contact the Italian consulate in your city : http://www.embassiesabroad.com/embassies-in/Canada. Good luck.
2 :
This is the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website information on visas to Italy. http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp You can use this to determine if you need a visa for a short tourist visit by entering your nationality and Canada as your residence. If you do need a visa, the site provides information about what you need and where you can apply. There are links to the forms required. Generally, you will have to apply at the Italian Consulate that has jurisdiction over the area of Canada in which you live.
3 :
You don't have to be 18 years for a visa application, your parents can apply on behalf of you. The visa for a longer stay of more than 90 days applies to Canadians or other visa-free countries only. For citizens requiring a tourist visa it will be issued valid for from 1 to 90 days. Besides Canadians, citizens of Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, USA, Uruguay, Vatican City, and Venezuela do not need a visa to travel to Italy for less than 91 days as tourists. If you have another passport you will need a visa, which must be applied for at the Italian Embassy in Ottawa or one of the consulates in Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver. Have a written statement issued by your school that the visit is an educational school trip if applicable. The visa application would then be free of a fee which is normally €60 or ~CAD$96. Medical studying abroad, in Italy

Medical studying abroad, in Italy?
So, I want to go through college, medical school, residency, etc. to become a doctor. While talking about this with my friend's dad who is from Europe, he mentioned to me how long the process of becoming a physician is and the LARGE amount of debt it will amass. He recommended that, instead of only going to one college/medical school in the US, I go to a school in Italy, Austria, or Germany. He told me how they were much cheaper to attend, were great schools, and how the US's medical field was suffering from government cuts. Would studying abroad be a great opportunity? I would have to learn the language, and learn about culture. But what are your opinions on this?

Horrible idea! Unless you study in the US, you will have to jump to through hoops, take alot of tests and pay huge fees to practice in the U.S. Plus, alot of hospitals won't even consider hiring you! And yes, you would have to learn the language- and very, very fluently.
2 :
Going to a foreign medical school will make it harder for you to get into a residency program in the U.S., but it has been done. However, it does require you to jump through more "hoops" as stated by another post. If you can get into a U.S medical school, I would recommend that first. However, if your only option to get into medical school is to go abroad then you should go, but know that the process afterwards will be more complicated. Good luck.

Why not go to the school near you, and ask for the office of international students, or the student employment office. They usually have information on studying abroad. You'd probably have to come up with some money in order to pay for the trip there. You can also become an au pair, where you'd babysit for a local family, and go to a local school to teach English or something, or learn Italian. I'm sure there are lots of programs out there that would allow you to study abroad and receive college credits.

first day of school.. new guy from italy smiles at me during physics and during lunch?
first day sucked but then he showed up. from italy. righteous! i walked into physics and my physics teacher made us go in alphabetical order by last names. the italian guy asked me what last name was and he was one person ahead of me. he smiles at me. that was 3rd period. then im walking and i see him with this girl whos obsessed with electronic music and shes trying to tell him to meet him at a cafe when hes hungry. (we have an open campus) she was trying to think of the cafe name and i passed by her and she told me to come back. i told her it was called doucefrance and she said to him, "oh yes! thats the name... so if you wanna ever have lunch there, we can." and he said ok. i noticed when i said the name he was smiling at me again. good signals? even better, after that i asked him if he had ever seen pirates of the carribean and he said, "yes some people tell me i look like jack sparrow" and we both laughed but not the electronic girl. he said bye to both of us and walked off. i then asked the girl if she liked him and she said no way! does this mean anything special?

TEFL/CELTA in Italy: Has anyone gone to (Teacher Training .IT in Milan)

TEFL/CELTA in Italy: Has anyone gone to (Teacher Training .IT in Milan) ?
TEFL/CELTA in Italy: Has anyone gone to (Teacher Training .IT in Milan) ? I would really appreciate some feedback on this school... They offer the CELTA and that is why I am considering them. I will be trying to find a position in Italy after I finish the course. Any info from Americans who had to go through the process of getting a work Visa for English Teaching in Italy (I would be very grateful for any tips on that as well) It is always good to hear from someone who has been. I am planning to go late this year. How did you find the course to be? Did they prepare you well? Did they offer any assistance in job seeking after your course? Any recommendations of other great schools which would allow good opportunities upon completion (in Italy?) I am American 23. I am open to all options.....Especially if they ore more cost effective than CELTA but provide high standards and at least 120 hrs. of supervised teaching instruction. And is recognized by most schools in Italy to be quality. Thanks a million!

In all my time teaching here in Italy, I don't know of a single American who has managed to get a work visa to teach English in the past few years - and not for lack of trying, either. The Americans working here legally generally either got sent here by their American workplace (i.e. business, law firm, hospital, etc.), have dual EU citizenship, are students at the local university (but for a student visa you need to take and pass two exams per semester, a lot of work to handle if you teach full-time), or married an Italian. The work visa laws are Byzantine enough (you find a job that is willing to jump through a million hoops and pay a lot of money for you in order to get a visa, you have to have a visa to get a job), so it is virtually -impossible- to acquire one on your own. Schools do not get visas for their teachers. That said, there are a LOT of Americans working here illegally without encountering problems - the local authorities tend to look the other way (though there's always the chance that border control might). But if you do so, you need to be aware of the risks involved. Your CELTA/TEFL course could probably tell you more.

universities in Italy for Americans

universities in Italy for Americans?
I'm a sophomore at a Fairfax County High school in VA, and i was wondering if anybody knows any colleges/universities in Italy that I could apply to. Junior year is coming soon and I just wanted to be prepared. I want to go into the field of early childhood education, which is basically like a kindergarten teacher. Does anyone know a school in Italy that specifies in that field?? Also, I'd appreciate if you could recommend schools that are near Milan and Florence since I have family there. Lastly, I wanted to include that I don't want to go to a school in Italy for just like a semester or one year. I'm planning on moving there permanently after graduating high school in 2012. Also, if possible, could you list schools that have courses in English, I mean i'm fluent in Italian, but I'd prefer learning in english if possible. Thank you so much, I'm so excited I can't wait for 2012 to come!!! ~Bella!

~Bella!

Rome, Italy or Venice, Italy.

You are going to go to a city. Just pick your size from Rome and Milan (best for shopping) down to say Bolonga, or Genoa....small than that shopping drops off, but the men are everywhere. Cheers.
3 :
Como is extremely nice and it's a stone's throw to Chiasso, Switzerland. Get a post office box in Chiasso and you'll get your mail much more quickly than in Italy. And Swiss chocolate... And there is a restaurant that serves a fantastic calzone! I still remember it plainly after thirty years! And the buses are quite prompt. And, of course, Lake Como! Check it out; you'll be glad that you did.

Look my dear, I have been all over Italy. You name it -- I have been there. Lake Como is a bore for someone with some class, unlesss you can get into the high society of the villas. If you are adventureous and youthful (seem to be) got yourself to Milan or Rome--- for the big city experience, maybe Genoa for all-around Italian setting, near great beaches and lovely little mountain towns, or consider -- under-rated Naples for heat and excitment and hot men who are animals. Bari is a nice seaport town with access to Greece, but I would go to the Island of Sicily for the balanced best of all that is Italian. Venice is a must to visit, but the men are opportunistic, good for a night or two, not more. Verona is sort of in the middle of city, close to Milan and Venice, and medium sized, not too touristy, shy men, compared to the rest of Italians. You have a delightful problem.

Modesty in Italy

Modesty in Italy?
When I'm eighteen, I'm going to Italy for one whole year as an exchange student. I want to know what to wear. I don't want the answers for what to wear to school in Italy, but what to wear when I go to Italy, such as when I'm outside of Italy. Something modest?

I watch TV from Rome every day. On the beach, at the mall, and in the street Italian young people wear the same clothes as Americans, only of better quality. In general, modesty is a good policy in Italy, and especially when you visit churches.
2 :
They wear high heels out of bed. And they dress in designer clothes while going out.

i went to one, its great, some freedom, an experience i treasure to this day

It is a great experience and I do recommend it. I also recommend you choose a school with a lot of boarding students, the more students the more fun you'll have. Also make sure you don't end up in a boarding school that people are sent to only because their parents want them to get "fixed", sometimes its hard to tell if a school is like that or not.
4 :
Boarding School is one of lifes most rewarding experiences, one I suggest everyone who can should try. There are disadvangates to Boarding Schools as well as the advantages, one of which is the lack of time spent with family and a much more structured and strict way of life than many are use to. As for schools in Italy I don't think there is a boarding school for lower highschoolers in Italy, however I may be wrong. Research Research Research! Don't forget to include your parents in you're quest to find a school.
